FVR: ‘Aquino represented past, future of Filipinos’
Former President Fidel V. Ramos on Friday expressed grief over the death of his predecessor, former President Corazon Aquino, saying her demise was a loss not only for Filipinos but for the whole world. In a phone-patch interview with GMA News, Ramos, who took over the presidency when Mrs. Aquino bowed out of office in 1992, paid tribute to the role that the democracy icon had played in shaping the Philippines after coming out of martial rule under strongman Ferdinand Marcos. "Not only the entire Filipino nation grieves, but the whole world. Cory Aquino represented the past and the future of our people and led in the direction of a better future for our people," Ramos said. “Dito sa aming lahat sa aking pamilya ay nakikiramay sa pamilya at sa lahat ng mahal sa buhay ni Cory Aquino," said Ramos, who only learned about Mrs. Aquino’s death on radio.

"Ang buong pamilyang Marcos ay nakikiisa sa pagluluksa ng sambayanang Pilipino sa pagpanaw ni dating Pangulong Corazon Aquino (The Marcos family joins Filipinos in mourning former President Corazon Aquino's death)," Ilocos Norte Rep. Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr said in a statement. Marcos said his family knows the pain the Aquino family is going through with the death of the "People Power" icon. "Muli, ang aming pakikiramay at pakikiisa sa pamilyang Aquino (Again, our condolences and support for the Aquino family)," the congressman said.
In a separate statement, former First Lady Imelda Marcos asked Filipinos to "unite and pray for Cory."
Corazon Aquino was propelled into the presidency after the 1986 people's revolt that toppled the Marcos dictatorship. Aquino restored democracy in the Philippines and a new Constitution with democratic safeguards was adopted. The former president died 3:18 a.m. Saturday died due to complications from colon cancer. She was 76.

Sa pulong balitaan nitong Sabado ng tanghali, sinabi ni Senador Benigno “Noynoy" Aquino III, na pumanaw ang kanyang ina dakong 3:18 a.m. sa Makati Medical Center. Si Gng Aquino ay 76-anyos.
Marso noong nakaraang taon nang ibalita sa publiko nina Sen Aquino at kapatid nitong si Kris Aquino-Yap na natuklasan ang stage-4 colon cancer ng kauna-unang babaeng presidente ng Pilipinas.
Mula noong ay sumailalim na sa chemotherapy si Gng Aquino sa pag-asang mapapagaling ang kanyang karamdaman. Nitong nakaraang Mayo ay sumailalim siya sa operasyon upang alisin ang bahagi ng kanyang bituka na mayroon cancer.
Kasunod nito ay nawalan umano ng ganang kumain si Gng Aquino kaya dinala siya sa Makati Medical Center nitong Hunyo. Dumagsa ang mga panalangin para sa kanyang paggaling at pagkalat ng mga dilaw na laso sa kalye, mga bahay, sasakyan at maging sa Web site.
“She would have wanted us to thank each and everyone of you for all your continued love and support. It was her wish for all of us to pray for one another and for our country," ayon kay Sen Aquino.
"Hinihiling po ng aming pamilya ang kaunting panahon para makasama namin ng ilang sandali ang aming ina. Later in the day, we will be announcing further details of her wake para po sa lahat ng ating minamahal na kababayan na nais magbigay ng respeto para sa aming mahal na ina," idinagdag ng senador.

Naluklok bilang pangulo si Gng Aquino noong 1986 matapos ang mapayapang people revolution na sinuportahan ng militar na naging daan sa pagbagsak ng diktaturyang rehimen ni dating Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos.
Si Gng Aquino ay biyudad ng pinaslang na si dating Sen Benigno “Noynoy" Aquino Jr. noong Agosto 21. 1983. Isinisi kay Marcos ang asasinasyon kay Ninoy na kinikilalang lider ng oposisyon.
Dahil sa mga kilos protesta, nagpatawag ng snap elections si Marcos. Pinili ng oposisyon si Gng Aquino na gawing standard bearer at bise presidente si Salvador Laurel noong 1986 polls. Bagaman si Marcos at katambal nitong si dating Sen Arturo Tolentino ang idineklarang panalo sa bilangan ng boto ng Batasang Pambansa, kumalat ang alegasyon ng dayaan at sinundan ng pag-aaklas nina dating Defense Minister Juan Ponce Enrile (Senate President ngayon) at dating Vice Chief of Staff Gen. Fidel Ramos (dating pangulo).
Ang pag-aaklas nina Enrile at Ramos ay sinuportahan ni dating Manila Archbishop Jaime Cardinal Sin at nanawagan ito sa publiko ang protektahan ang mga rebeldeng sundalo na nagkakampo noong sa Camp Crame.
Dumagsa na rin ang libu-libong tao sa kanto ng Ortigas at EDSA hanggang sa tuluyang lisanin ni Marcos ang Malacanang noong Pebrero 1986. Ginawa ni Gng Aquino ang panunumpa bilang bago at kauna-unang babaeng pangulong ng Pilipinas sa makasaysayang Club Filipino sa Greenhills, San Juan. - GMANews.TV
